The Promotion of Access to Information Act
This bit of legislation became law in February 2002 and while it has definite justification when applied to Government agencies and large public companies, smaller, owner run companies will find it generally a pain in the butt. However it is a legal requisite and requires all undertakings to:
- prepare and publish a manual of information on its possession and the availability status of this information
- this manual should have been completed and published by mid-August 2002
- appoint an information officer who will set up and maintain the manual and handle all requests for information.
As most of the information is likely to be labour or safety related, Brentwood can handle these functions, including registering as your information officer, either as part of our human resources service, by extending our consultation retainer or on a one-off basis.
