National Strike Action - 7 October 2022
COSATU will embark on protest marches and pickets on 7 October 2022. The action complies with the Labour Relations Act
If employees choose to participate in the industrial action:
- They may not be disciplined for doing so.
- The principle of no work, no pay applies.
- Absent employees can be assumed to be on strike, unless they prove otherwise in the form of doctors notes, etc.
In most industries participants in the strike do not accumulate shifts for leave and bonus pay.
The action coincides with the World Day for Decent Work
The demands include that employers and policymakers respect labour laws and take seriously the calls for decent work. Cosatu wants workers to unite in defending jobs, fighting corruption, as well as the shortcomings of our law enforcement agencies in fighting corruption and gender-based violence, and protect the integrity of collective bargaining, and to resist all attempts by employers to undermine it.
